 NAM-MÔ TÁT YẾT RỊ ĐA

With one heart return and worship, drawing closer in the future.

Have audience with great sages in number like Ganges' sands;

Repay their kindness, increase your blessings, eradicate offense karma.

Return to the root and go back to the source; illumine the past and present.

COMMENTARY:

With one heart return and worship, drawing closer in the future. One draws near to all Buddhas. Have audience with great sages in number like Ganges' sands. One draws near the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. No matter where one goes, one believes in the Buddha, bows, and worships him. One also worships countless Bodhisattvas and Arhats. Repay their kindness, increase your blessings, eradicate offense karma. In cultivation, you must repay the kindness of your parents, of heaven and earth, of your teachers and elders, and of the nation. People must understand to whom they owe a debt of gratitude. How does one increase one's blessings? By cultivating giving, doing meritorious and virtuous deeds, and by eradicating one's offenses. Return to the root and go back to the source; illumine the past and present. If you can return to the root and go back to the source, you will be the same as the Buddhas--shining light on the past and present.
